Water is fundamental to plant health — it carries nutrients from the soil into the plant, drives photosynthesis, and keeps cells turgid. Yet watering incorrectly is one of the most common reasons plants struggle or die. The golden rule that surprises many gardeners: overwatering is far more deadly than underwatering for the majority of plants.
